Free TV licences for over-75s

The SRTA is concerned, firstly, about current proposals to end the policy of providing free tv licences to all those over 75 years of age; and secondly, that the BBC should be responsible for this benefit.

The General President of PSPC (Public Service Pensioners' Council) has written to Jeremy Wright, MP, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, to Tom Watson, MP, Depute Leader of the Labour Party, and also to the BBC. Replies are awaited from the first two addressees. The BBC has promised to keep in touch should there be further developments.

Meantime, the SRTA would encourage members to sign the online petitions of AgeUK /AgeScotland, available through the LINK on this website. Letters to MPs by individuals or branches could also be helpful.
